The hostess was pretty friendly and tried her best to answer our questions in her heavily indian accent. Nothing serious, just what kind of food and whats the best selling dish, stuff like that.

We were seated before you can finish saying “life is like a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you are going to get”. I like the deco. It reminded me of Dave’s Deli with its rock and roll memorabilia. You don’t need me to tell you what kind of theme right?

We were handed the menu and the waiter started us off with some simple instructions.

He then proceeded to ask for our choice of drinks. On his recommendation, I ordered the Mango Sparkler. dW loves mango, so I figured if this sample is ok, at least when we go there again, I’ll know what to order for her.

Add RM2.90, you can make this refillable. Trust me though, you don’t need it.

As the waiter went to fetch our drinks, we went through the menu in the hope something jumps out from it to turn us on. By the way, the items listed in the menu online does not reflect the actual menu. Outdated? Probably. Either that or the real menu has been tailored to suit local tastebuds.

The garlic bread is amazing. Honestly, feed me the garlic bread alone and I’ll die happy. Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside with a hint of garlic. Heaven!!

Amidst bitching about work, we forked spags and prawns into our mouths like we have not eaten in a week. We finish within 10 minutes.

Yes, it is indeed on the pricey side. Trust me though, the food and ambience is worth it. Oh! During lunch, people watching is fun too. SYTs everywhere.

And when you are are done, stop by the gift shop.

My first impression of the place was, “hey! this place looks boring.” Being too used to places with themes and decos, Yuen looks pretty boring to me.

4 walls. Tables and chairs and a cashier counter. With more than a dozen stools outside, I think we can safely assume that the line will be pretty long come dinner time.

We attacked the buffet line as soon as we were seated. First on the menu was of course the famous…..

Teriyaki Sauce Chicken

IMHO, its nothing to shout about. Deep fried some chicken wings, pour tons of teriyaki sauce on it. Done!

Service was pretty good. Prompt and proactive, we rarely need to offer the world a whiff of our underarms.

Food variety was great! Fishballs of various kinds, my favourite razor clams and whatever other shell fish you can name as well as the usual seafood. One thing I have to say, Yuen is not stingy on the expensive items.

Except for the chicken wings, everything was was reloaded promptly.

As usual, I judge a restaurant by the state its toilets are. Glad to say, I didn’t feel icky when I visited it. Well lit and tons of water. Good air flow too. Not bad.

I’ve been told the other steamboat restaurants in the area serves tastier meal but people still go to Yuen due to its vast variety and price. We can’t verify that until we’ve tried it all. Maybe the other owners would like to invite us to do a review on them. As for now, Yuen is a good place for camaradie and a huge big bang for your buck.
